The Southern Chapter conducts an annual meeting in the month of february where member nephrologists and students interact and present their clinical experiences.Clinical material is submitted as abstracts and are presented either as platform or poster presentation.

The stated objective of the society is to encourage poster presentations and to that end exclusive time is devoted during the meeting. The chapter also encourages the young members and postgraduate students. The PC mary tanker Young Investigator Award and the Dr Niyamatullah Memorial Essay Competition are two such activities for them.

Departing from the usual feature of separate sessions on scientific paper presentation, lectures , paper presentations are amalgamated in a manner ensuring preservation of scientific interests and attendance. The Southern Chapter has done itself proud with Guest Lectures from pioneers and erstwhile contributors to the growth of Nephrology- Prof Christopher Blagg- Director of Dialysis Seattle – the Citadel of Dialysis; Prof Venkateshwara Rao- Director of Transplant nephrology Minneapolis , who has the experience of doing the maximum number of renal transplants with special interests in diabetics and hepatitis associated patients. Leon G. Fine United States –a historian , Prof. D. K. Peters a Immuno Nephrologist United Kingdom , Prof Robert Schrier past president of International Society of Nephrology and Prof.John Feehally , the present Secretary of the International Society of Nephrology.

The greatest privilege enjoyed by the Society is the successful transfer of the mantleship to similar , if not more enthusiastic personnel committed to scientific progress and the objectives of the Chapter.Prof.B.R.Nammalwar was the first honorary secretary of the society .He was followed by Prof.R.Vijayakumar , Prof.Ramadas Pisharody and Dr.Urmila Anand. Every one of them have worked hard to inculcate every annual gathering of the society with a firm scientific temper. In these twenty eight years of the society’s existence exciting developments have taken place in Nephrology and every meeting is spiced with CME’s,Quiz Programmes and Award sessions. A notable addition in the last year has been the Journal scan during the early morning  Breakfast sessions. As we march in to the third decade we work with the same enthusiasm as our founding members to take the society to greater heights.
